The Dallas Mavericks’ professional basketball team started the 2002-2003 season with their best record in franchise history. Suddenly, they lost three games in a row. Those who know the game could readily see part of their problem – they lost focus of what they had been doing that made them winners. They became complacent – thinking they couldn’t miss shoots or lose games.
Jesus told the first church of Revelation 2 to repent and regain their first love. In other words, the truth that was revealed to them had become old stuff. They had forgotten to what they were called. When you lose focus of WHY you were called and to WHAT you were called, indifference sets in along with complacency.
Jesus even told us WHY we can become indifferent! “And many false prophets shall arise, and shall deceive many. AND because iniquity shall abound, the love of MANY shall wax cold. But he that shall ENDURE unto the END, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:11-13). There is religious confusion everywhere. There are those claiming to receive “dreams and visions” that directly contradict the revealed word of God, the Bible. Because they had contact with a “spirit,” they automatically think it is God’s Holy Spirit. God’s Holy Spirit leads into all truth – not contradictions (John 16:13).
We can easily lose focus of our calling if we do not remind ourselves of WHAT it is. We need to look at Matthew 6:33 often. “But seek you FIRST the kingdom of God, AND his righteousness: …” Jesus said: “You have NOT chosen me, but I HAVE CHOSEN YOU, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that fruit should REMAIN: …” (John 15:16).
Jesus has called certain people today to prepare themselves for rulership in His Kingdom (Revelation 5:9-10). He is grooming us to become kings and priests for the time when He sets His hand to save all who will hear and obey. He said we are to produce “fruit!” “But the FRUIT of the [Holy] Spirit IS love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23). These attributes are to BECOME our nature, the “new man!”
Jesus said MANY would become hardened to continuing in obedience to His truth – “the love of MANY would ‘wax’ cold!” It doesn’t have to be YOU! You and I can keep in our minds-eye the coming kingdom and live righteously today with the help of God’s Spirit. We don’t have to be a foolish virgin that is unprepared when the 7th trump sounds! If we discipline ourselves TO obey and produce “fruit” today, we will not have to scurry around looking for some way to re-kindle our faith when we see fulfillment of Bible prophecy JUMP into our faces!!!
Jesus WAS God before He came into human flesh to die for our transgressions against His law (John 1:1-3, 14). As He was preparing for His cruel death sentence, He prayed to His Father in Heaven: “And now, O Father, glorify you me with your own self WITH THE GLORY which I had WITH YOU before the world was [created]” (John 17:5). Jesus knew what it meant to be GLORIFIED!!! He was WITH God the Father and WAS God also “in the beginning” (John 1:1-3).
Jesus wants you to REMEMBER His purpose for calling you – TO BE GLORIFIED!!! Scripture was recorded so that we would KNOW why we have been called. Jesus took some of His disciples with Him to a mountainous terrain. “And was transfigured before them: and His face did shine as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light … there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with Him … And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw NO man, save [except] Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the VISION to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead” (Matthew 17:1-9). Jesus wanted YOU to KNOW what you will be like IN GLORY!!!
Jesus is encouraging us all NOT TO GROW WEARY IN WELL DOING! Don’t let the cares of this world grab your attention from your destiny, so you can endure! The kingdom is coming!!!
“Arise, shine: for your light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross [spiritual] darkness the people: BUT the Lord shall arise upon you, and His GLORY shall be seen upon you” (Isaiah 60:1-2). The saints will follow Jesus from heaven to establish the Kingdom of God. YOU will be glorified with immortality (I Corinthians 15:50-57).
“But the saints of the most High shall TAKE the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever” (Daniel 7:18). “… and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom” (v. 22). “And the kingdom and dominion … shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom …” (v. 27). It’s coming!!!
