The God of the Old Testament, Jesus Christ [I Corinthians 10:1-4], gave information for Moses to deliver to ancient Israel. He said: “You shall not add unto the word which I have commanded you, neither shall you diminish ought from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you” (Deuteronomy 4:2). This verse applies to the New Testament Church today.
Notice what else the same God had Moses write for our good: “If there arise among you a prophet [or would be preacher], or a dreamer, and gives you a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, saying, Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them [by changing the time for the holy days]; You shall not listen unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams [or would be preacher]: for the Lord your God PROVES YOU, to KNOW whether you love the Lord your God with ALL your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep His commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve Him, and cleave unto Him. And that prophet, or that dreamer, shall be put to death, BECAUSE he has spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, … So shall you put EVIL away from the midst of you” (Deuteronomy 13:1-6). Moses continued God’s word by saying that NO relative or friend should consent or agree with him in his attempting to turn people from God – rather EXPOSE him!!!
Later David became king over Israel at God’s choosing. After David’s death, Solomon took the throne. Solomon took many foreign wives, 1,000 in all. God warned him: “… they will turn away your heart after their gods: … and his wives turned away his heart” (I Kings 11:3-4). After Solomon died, his son Rehoboam began to reign. Jeroboam was an enemy of Solomon and was promised by God to rule over the Northern Ten Tribes just as David had been promised by an everlasting covenant to rule Judah – IF HE OBEYED GOD!!!
Rehoboam would not loosen the tax burden, so Jeroboam led a rebellion against Rehoboam to the day this was written. Now King Jeroboam began to commit idolatry. He took two calves of gold and forced Northern Israel to worship them. This became a sin! And look what else he did! “And Jeroboam ordained a FEAST in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month …” (I Kings 12:32).
Jeroboam CHANGED the time of the Feast of Tabernacles from the Seventh to the Eighth month. This became a sin also because God had told them not to add to or take away from His ways. Jeroboam changed the TIME to keep the Feast of Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles. Is it being done today?
Do these scriptures apply to us and show us that people before us have twisted God’s word??? In 1983 most kept the Feast of Tabernacles a month early. It was 95 degrees in Missouri. They did it because they were deceived by Hillel II’s calendar. He changed the calendar to the way it is today in 359 AD. They were smothered with heat, while a month later in October it was nice and cool just as it should be for a FALL Festival.
The first month ALWAYS starts in the spring and the Passover and Unleavened Bread in the spring. You insert an extra month if the accumulation of 30 days overage occurs. In 2013 the first Crescent Moon IN SPRING was April 11th. That means the Feast of Trumpets that many kept was a month early, the sixth month. It was 97 degrees on September 8, 2013 and still summer, not fall. Once again, we have been PROVEN correct. October 7, FALL, will be God’s Feast of Trumpets.
We are so sad that some have decided to BREAK God’s ways and start the First day of the New Year in winter. The reason is they followed Jews who do not have God’s Spirit. We are not to follow the example of Solomon, Jeroboam, and Hillel II. We must not add to or take away from God’s word.
We are Christians! “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body of Christ(Colossians 2:16-17). Paul warned in the first part of this chapter against unbelievers trying to cause trouble in the church by condemning what we believe. It is our job to remain TRUE to God’s word and not fall for the sleight of men. Let us be true, and everyone else who deviates FROM the truth watch out for the results.
