According to Luke 4: 5-6, Satan the devil has been giving authority to rule in the affairs of nations or whomever he chooses to elevate. Of course, Satan would have NO power unless it was delegated to him by Jesus. Who has been given all authority [power] in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28: 18)! Jesus did not call us out from under Satan’s rule without giving us a method by which to overcome his advances upon us. I Peter 5: 8 says “the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:” Will he devour us?
Jesus did not call us out from under Satan’s rule without giving us a method by which to overcome his advances upon us. I Peter 5: 8 says “the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:” Will he devour us? Paul encourages us to take the whole armor of God, so we can fight a good fight and stand before God the Father and Jesus victoriously over Satan’s tricks (v. 13). Paul gave us the first step to defeat the wicked spirits that are seeking to destroy us when he wrote “having your loins girt about with truth” (v. 14). Jesus said – “Your word is truth.” The Bible is TRUTH that can guide us through troubling times with wicked spirits. In the same fourteenth verse Paul said we could protect our chest where the heart is located by becoming righteous. Psalm 119: 172 states that all of God’s commandments are righteous. If we keep them from the heart, we will develop God’s righteousness. Strength to fight the battle comes from our Father. Paul continued his writing by telling us to walk in the light of the gospel of peace (v. 15). Jesus will eventually bring this world peace. Charging into battle against the wicked spirit world, we’re to carry a shield to protect us from Satan’s fiery darts. It is called faith (v. 16). We can deflect all tricks of Satan designed to undermine our salvation when we exercise FAITH in the shed blood of Jesus.
Paul instructed us to protect our minds with a helmet. That helmet is an understanding of salvation (v. 17). Jesus came to die in our stead. By our accepting His sacrifice for our sins that brought upon us the death penalty, we can be salvaged FROM DEATH; therefore, we will LIVE FOREVER! This is salvation. In the same verse Paul said the sword of the Spirit IS the word of God. Jesus used this offensive weapon against Satan when being tempted in Matthew 4: 4, 7 – “… it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” – “… It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.” Jesus made man with the knowledge that Satan was left on earth to deceive. Therefore, Jesus knew how to combat Satan’s invasion into His and our life! Jesus knew the spiritual armor needed to gain the victory. He said truth, righteousness, understanding the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, using the word of God, along with prayer and supplication will make us bold to stand firm and be an overcomer. Satan can be overcome by the mighty power of Jesus. Let Him live in you!
