RESERVED FOR JUDGEMENT
Angels can and have sinned in the past. "Sin is the transgression of the law" (1 Jn. 3:4). So certain of the angels transgressed against God's moral principles. "The wages of sin is DEATH" (Rom. 6:23). There is coming a time of judgement for rebellious angels. "For if God SPARED NOT the angels that SINNED, BUT CAST THEM DOWN TO HELL [Greek word 'tartaros' which means a place of restraint], and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be RESERVED UNTO JUDGEMENT;" (2 Pet. 2:4). Jesus inspired Peter to state the most wicked angels were to be reserved for judgement. What did Jesus say or preach to these wicked spirits! In 1 Pet. 3:19 Jesus "went and preached unto the spirits in prison;" and v. 20 says "Which sometime were DISOBEDIENT,…" Notice WHEN Jesus preached to these rebellious spirits, v. 20 "…God waited in the days of Noah…" Jesus preached their FATE, final punishment when this "SHORT TIME" is over. As a result of Jesus preaching to them concerning their final destination, Satan and his demons will make their final assault upon God's throne. Satan wants to postpone the judgement determined upon him. He feels that he can overthrow God and be released from his fate permanently. That's how warped his thinking has become. Satan is the loser for his rebellion against his Creator.
SATAN'S PLOT AGAINST JESUS
Jesus went into the wilderness as directed by the Holy Spirit. There He fasted 40 days and nights. At this juncture, His body was at the point of starvation. He was at the weakest point of His life. Enter Satan to overthrow the only hope of salvation for mankind. If Satan could deceive Jesus into sinning in just one point, He would disqualify Himself from being our Saviour. WHY? Because He too would become a sinner and be in need of a Saviour. "And Jesus being full of the Holy Spirit returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days TEMPTED of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward HUNGERED" (Lk. 4:1-2). The Greek word for hungered is #3983 in the Strong's Concordance which means famished, craving. Jesus was at His weakest point when Satan attacked Him to try and destroy Him.
Only one sin makes us a child of the devil. "He that committeth sin IS of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL" (1 Jn. 3:8). If we commit just ONE sin, we are in opposition to God. JESUS CAME TO DESTROY THE EVIL WORKS OF THE DEVIL. Satan will not repent.
SATAN WAS A CREATED ANGEL GONE WRONG
Satan was a created being. "Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God;" (Ezek. 28:13). Only Adam, Eve, God, and the serpent, who is identified as Satan the Devil was in the garden of God. V. 13 shows this being "wast created." V. 14, "Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth;" Now notice the next verse, 15. "Thou was perfect in thy ways from the day that thou was created, till INIQUITY was found in thee." V. 16, "…and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will DESTROY thee…" This being fell because of sin.
Let's compare Ezek. 28 to Isa. 14. "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer,…how art thou CUT DOWN to the ground, which didst WEAKEN the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ASCEND above the heights of the clouds: I will be like the most High" (Isa. 14:12-14). These two accounts show that Lucifer, a cherub angel, assaulted God's throne. He sinned against God. Notice what Jesus, who was there, said. "…I beheld Satan as lightning FALL from heaven" (Lk. 10:18).
In Ezekiel the created being was cast out of heaven by God. In Isaiah Lucifer FELL from heaven. In Luke Satan fell. Surely Lucifer and Satan are one and the same. It was Lucifer who rebelled against God and drew 1/3rd of the angels in rebellion against the Kingdom of God. WHAT WILL BE THEIR FATE BECAUSE OF THIS SIN?
ARE ANGELS IMMORTAL?
A prominent teaching states that Satan and his demons CANNOT die because they are composed of spirit, and therefore immortal. Is this true or have some scriptures been overlooked?
Let's see WHO the Bible says has immortality. "Now unto the King eternal, IMMORTAL, invisible, the ONLY wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever" (1 Tim. 1:17). This scripture states that God is immortal.
